Devil Music

MR038

If it wasn’t enough to hear it from Matthew, Mark, Luke & John—we have Charlie and Ira to tell us that Satan is real.

Friends there are certain passions whether they find purchase as conundrum of the heart, hunger of the mind or ambition of the flesh, which seem to originate in the nether regions. It can be hard to discern between the hot, hot fire of hell and the bright white heat of the Holy Spirit. This bewilderment is found especially when it comes to music. A melody might move a child of God whether it is played on King David’s harp or Mephistopheles lyre. Gospel music is no exception. The Devil can find his way into a gospel song as easily as he can slip into the back pew of your grandmother’s church.

Sinner Friend, as Jesus Christ and Jefferson tell us, the best way to perceive the nature of a spirit is to call it out and turn it up. Consider this collection of low music a ministry in this endeavor of decrement.

Praise the Lord or give the Devil his due.

-Rev. Russell Rathbun
